WFYW: Praying Circles, Finding Mentors, & Passing Out Tracts

“Wisdom for your weekend”: your weekly installment of things we’ve been reading around the web.

Book Review of the Week

The Circle Maker, by Mark Batterson. Reviewed by Tim Challies.

Tim raises some points that anyone who has read the book should consider, which is why I post it. On the other hand, however, I am grateful for Mark’s book on the whole because there are prophetic and timely truths at the heart of the book – a message that needs to be heard, specifically about the role of faith-filled, believing prayer in our ministries – a point I wish Tim had acknowledged more in his review.

Articles of the Week

Several “Firsts” in Christian Thought, Justin Taylor. To prepare you for when the “Early Church History” category shows up on Jeopardy.

Let Us Read, As in, Read, Jonathan Parnell. “She made a statement about God with language from an open Bible without actually reading it. What she said was pure fluff. And it was cute. But only because she is three and can’t actually read.”

Our Unhealthy Obsession with Pastors, Luma Simms. When pastors are the only ones expected to do “ministry,” women are cut out—which is bad for both them and the entire church.
