20 Time-Management Lessons Everyone Should Learn In Their 20s, Richard Feloni, Business Insider. It’s okay: if you’ve missed the 20s deadline, you have my permission to learn from this as well. I’ve seen much of this in one venue or another, but this is a handy compilation. (My favorite is the “Pomodoro Technique,” named after … a tomato.)
The “Jesus’ Wife” Fragment Is a Hoax, Jerry Pattengale, Wall Street Journal. Remember the buzz about two years ago when an ancient Egyptian fragment was found referring to “Jesus’ wife?” Well, color me unsurprised, but it turns out that tiny document was a forgery. As Dr. Pattengale writes, the more research was done on the fragment, the more “the story began to crumble faster than an ancient papyrus exposed in the windy Sudan.”
How to Equip Your Kids to Say “No” to Porn, Jen Wilkin. “Let me tell you what played out at the sixth grade lunch table that day. When the phone with the images was offered, my son responded, “I don’t look at porn.” The owner of the phone, perplexed, asked, “Then how will you know how to have sex?” My son responded that his parents had told him all about it. Jaws dropped. Not one other sixth grade boy at the table had had a conversation with his parents about sex, or, it would seem, about porn. But they were by no means lacking in instruction.”
The Church Needs More Tattoos, Russell Moore. With Pastor J.D.’s brief mention of tattoos during last week’s sermon, I’ve had more conversations than I expected on the matter! Dr. Moore’s insight here transcends tattoos, and reminds us, “If the Spirit starts breathing his burden into us with power, we’re going to see churches filled with people who never thought they fit the image of ‘Christian.’”
Seven Reasons Why Christians Doubt, C. Michael Patton. Doubt can be a complicated experience, but far too often we assume that we know why a person is doubting (their salvation, the existence of God, God’s love for us) before we actually discern the causes. Patton has helped us out by showing 7 distinct reasons a Christian may doubt. If you want to apply the right cure to doubt, you need the proper diagnosis first.
