One of the greatest challenges for the advancement of the gospel among the unreached in this day and age is gaining and maintaining access to “closed” areas. This is why we’ve begun to map out and cast vision towards the next wave of missions — leveraging the skills and expertise of entrepreneurs, business owners, and kingdom-minded professionals to gain access to strategic unreached places.
Another avenue that is often overlooked is the opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students to study abroad in locations that are difficult for traditional “missionaries” to access. The possibilities are nearly endless, but the opportunities require intentionality, preparation, and connectivity. If you’re considering a study abroad program, please contact our missions and church planting office at zdickson@summitrdu.com. We’d love to talk over the opportunity with you, discuss how you can prepare, and potentially connect you to church planters and church planting teams in the area that might be able to provide even greater strategic direction and discipleship.
Recently, a church planting partner of ours has informed us of an opportunity to study at a major, state-of-the-art university in a country particularly resistant to the gospel in the 10/40 window. There is even a possibility of a full tuition scholarship to facilitate a 6-12 month study program. Students need to be studying within any of the following degree programs:
· Accounting
· Mathematics
· Statistics
· Geology
· Geophysics
· Physics
· Chemistry
· Industrial Chemistry
· Mechanical Engineering
· Electrical Engineering
· Civil Engineering
· Chemical Engineering
· Architecture
· Architectural Engineering
· Petroleum Engineering
· Computer Engineering
· Aerospace Engineering
· Information & Computer Science
· Systems Engineering
· Management
· Marketing
· Management Information Systems
· Finance/Economics
· Construction Engineering & Management
· City and Regional Planning
Only the degree programs listed above are eligible. Because of the cultural sensitivities in this particular area, only male applicants can be considered at this time.
If you are interested in being considered and exploring the next steps, please email your resume (including the degree program you are in), along with a cover letter that outlines your spiritual history, background in evangelism and discipleship, and why you want to pursue the opportunity to exchange1040@gmail.com. We need to hear from you by April 30th.
We’ll connect potential candidates to our partner for more information, follow-up, and assessment. If all goes well, you’ll be given the necessary information to begin the process directly with the university.
Summit, this is all part of our two-fold vision: whatever you are good at, (1) do it well—to the glory of God; and (2) do it somewhere strategic—for the mission of God.
